Dessert Bar Inspiration!

Dessert Bars have become all the hype with weddings and parties these days.

When planning my own wedding last fall I knew that I had to have a dessert bar. My favorite foods are basically anything with sugar in them so having a dessert bar was ESSENTIAL!

I found a lot of inspiration from the marvelous Amy Atlas. She has created some of the most beautiful dessert bars I've seen.

Since I'm a floral designer adding flowers to the dessert table was a must! In fact, I wanted the flowers to be a big part of the look. We used hydrangea, roses and sprayed branches with hanging ribbons and crystals which finished the look. My sister in law, Heidi, is super talented and made the desserts for this table (which lasted maybe 20 seconds... I learned that I wasn't the only sugar lover at our wedding dinner!!!). Thankfully we had A TON of wedding cake to go around. I was so in love with my wedding cake (thank you Granite Bakery and Bridal)! It had to be the center of the table. The lace details of the cake were unbelievable.

When designing a dessert table I think it's very important to label your desserts, plus labels can be really cute and can add a lot to the table. We chose to go with all white plates and dishes as well as white linens and a white lace overlay. I wanted the candy and desserts to pop a little which I think they did. When choosing the candy I wanted a variety of shapes and sizes and textures. We chose pina colada licorice, orange rock candy suckers, tangerine sour balls, pina colada sour balls and peach taffy. We did the same thing with the desserts. We served mini cupcakes, macarons, cake balls and white chocolate dipped oreos. We had little cellophane bags for the guests who opted to take their treats home. And for the finishing touch, Heidi made little sticker labels with our initials on them to seal the bags (I love to personalize things!).

The most important thing to remember when designing a dessert bar is to make sure to add your personality to it. Have fun with it and let it reflect a little piece of you!

Navy Stripes; Backyard Reception! Real wedding feature.

I am loving the sunshine outside and so I decided to feature a summer backyard wedding. This might only make my spring fever worse! Maddie was a total delight to work with! She and her sisters are extremely detail oriented which made working with them even more fun! One of my favorite details of the reception was the homemade arch... so cute!

Here's a little info on the bride (Maddie) and groom (Braiden).

How did you meet?

I first met Braiden when I was 14 years old and he was 18. He is my brother's best friend and I had a crush on him right from the start.

How did he propose?

After my senior cotillion, he surprised me by getting a bunch of friends together and taking me on a scavenger hunt that he said his Mom set up. We went to a lot of different places but the last place he took me to was my Mother's grave. My blanket was set up along with candles, rose petals and a teddy bear dressed up as a bride. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

So in love with that bouquet!

I absolutely love the homemade fabric flowers on this arch!

More wedding details!

Where was the location of the wedding and reception? The ceremony was at the Salt Lake temple and the reception was in the backyard of my parent's house.

Where did you get your rings? Braiden gave me my Mother's ring, I got Braiden's from Nancy G. Diamonds LLC. She has amazing prices and meets everyone personally.

Where did you buy your dress? I bought my dress from Gateway Bridal in Salt Lake City.

Where did you get the Groom's apparel? Braiden's suit came from Cleaner Image in Centerville, their prices were awesome and they have a huge selection. The dove gray suits were perfect for our wedding.

Who did your hair and makeup? Melanie Ray did my hair and makeup for my bridals as well as my wedding day and she did it perfectly. She even let me take some makeup with me all day to be able to fix things up. Styleseat.com/melanieray.

Where did you get your cake? Braiden's cousin has a small business you can find at www.sweetandflowers.com. Her name is Brittany and she can do anything you want!

Who designed your flowers? Blooms and Blossoms. Seriously amazing prices and she is so creative and has incredible ideas. She can also make anything possible.

Who did your catering? Jenny Ross did all of our cupcakes that weren't included in the cupcake tower, she has a huge variety as well. Kim Stoker, my stepmother, provided frozen yogurt and toppings from her business Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt.

Who was your photographer? My sister Shannon Garber took my engagements and my bridals and she is absolutely incredible. We were also very lucky to get Jessica Kettle to do my wedding at the Salt Lake Temple and my reception as well. She was so talented and easy to work with!

Who was your DJ? A family friend Joey Hansen, was the DJ at our wedding. He played all the songs we picked as well as added his own awesome taste. Later on, my father and my brother sang to me and I sang to Braiden.

Where did you get your rentals from? Our white chairs were rented from Diamond Rental.

Extra details: The flower arch, the table clothes and the theme of our wedding were made possible by my 4 sisters and some close family friends. All the lights and the tennis court set up was done by my family as well as Braiden's family. My Dad prepped the beautiful backyard all summer and everything turned out great!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of designing flowers for an event for some of the top film-makers of the Sundance Film Festival. The event took place on the terrace of the St. Regis Deer Valley. The views were amazing... especially since we were FINALLY getting some serious snow!

Anything with GLITTER, SPARKLE and SHINE I'm in love with! I'm am just fine jumping on the glitter bandwagon. If I could fill my closet with glitter shoes, dresses, shirts, belts, scarves, jewelry etc. I would do it! I don't think my husband would like all that glitter rubbing off on his clothes though. But then again isn't that what they sign up for when they get married???

Tangerine Tango: The Pantone Color of the Year!

I always look forward to the new Pantone color of the year. Tangerine Tango is the color chosen by Pantone for 2012. On Pantone's website it describes the color and what the color does for us. "Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward." The executive director of the Pantone Color Institute said: "Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy." I am quite in love with this color and can't wait to see how it is used in the wedding world! I found some great photos from Pinterest and even some from my own collection to share with you. I'm loving this color paired with gray.

Granite Bridal's Cakes from The Bridal Showcase

The Original Bridal Showcase was held this past weekend at the Salt Palace. It was full of hundreds of brides along with their soon-to-be hubbies, bridesmaids, moms, etc. I was a the bridal show on Friday and it was a packed house. It's always fun to see what vendors come up with for their booths each year. Today I am featuring the wedding cakes from Granite Bridal's booth. I also did some florals for their booth which you'll see in the pictures. Ryan Thompson with RLT Photography was kind enough to share these pictures with me. I think you'll enjoy these cakes (and flowers) as much as I do!

Just looking at these flowers gives me spring fever!! It feels so far away!

This next cake is the exact cake they designed for my wedding. The lace details on this cake are so gorgeous (and very "in" right now).

How do you not just love this groom's cake?? I saw a lot of groom's taking a second look at this little gem. In my opinion groom's cakes are a really fun addition to the wedding and they seem to bring a sparkle to every groom's eye.

My Love Story!

This next blog post is one that is very dear to my heart. This was the day I married the love of my life! I've been dreaming of this day for, let's be honest, most of my life (I'm a female!). Even though I've thought a lot about this day I haven't actually had any of it planned out until the day we decided to get married. That's when the wheels starting turning.

Since I'm a floral designer and I've been in the wedding industry for 8+ years there was a lot of pressure to create something

beautiful and timeless.

My color palette ranged from whites to ivory, golds and pops of peach, peachy orange and terracotta. I created my bouquet with all white flowers which consisted of ranunculus, garden roses, white dove roses, white lisianthus and white spray roses. I also added in some white beaded brooches to add a little glitz. Brittany with Cascio Photography was the fabulous photographer and did such a beautiful job of capturing every detail.

You'll notice this "red cooler" in more pictures. It (he) has become a part of our family. It's very rare for "the red" cooler not to show up to a family event. That being said it would have been unfortunate for him not to make it to my wedding. He not only showed up to the temple but he made it to the dinner as well. It wouldn't have been the same without him. :)

Obviously I am a florist. I debated on whether or not I should hire a florist or if I should take on the daunting task of doing my own flowers. Well, I chose to do the flowers myself. With of course the help of my family and girlfriends. I was so happy with the way it all came together!

This dessert bar was probably one of my favorite things. The cake was designed by Granite Bakery and Bridal and the desserts were created by my sister in law Heidi. I could look at this forever!

I heart!!!

Delicious hand passed hors d'oeuvres by The Point Restaurant.

Chef Brandon Howard created our menu which consisted of smoked prime rib, pancetta wrapped chicken and butternut squash ravioli. Yum!

My husband is a DIE HARD B.Y.U. fan (I'm a very loyal Aggie fan just to be clear). Since the bride typically gets to pick out most everything for their wedding (that was the case for me) I thought I'd surprise Jared with a B.Y.U. groom's cake. I think that might have been in his top 3 favorite things of the day!

We had the most awesome D.J. EVER!! Durven with Laughing Gravy was unbelievable! I've worked with him on several different occasions and always knew that he'd be the D.J. for my wedding. He did NOT disappoint!

To the left of Jared are my brothers and Dad. To the right of Jared are his brothers and Dad. A few of these guys (I won't mention names) were not afraid to be in the spotlight. This may have also been in Jared's top 3 favorite moments of the day.

Go Grandma! She was pretty wild on the dance floor. she can pop a wheelie like no one's business.

The next string of pictures are some of my favorites! My 2 nephews in the front really have no idea what they are trying to catch. They just know they want it and nothing or nobody will get in their way.

Let's just say the garter ripped in two pieces. They both won. Lucky little guys!

And here's the "red cooler" again. And my not so shy brother and brother in law. The night wouldn't have been complete without tossing sodas to the crowd.

What you didn't see here was Ryan, Jake and Adam shaking up the sodas before they opened them.

St. Regis Inspiration Continued.

Hopefully you saw the last post of our St. Regis inspiration shoot. We featured the ceremony outside with a beautiful view of the mountains. For the 2nd part we took it inside to the gorgeous lobby of the St. Regis hotel. The bride was absolutely stunning and we'd have to say the groom looked quite dapper. They make a beautiful couple. I LOVED the bride's bouquet. We used amnesia roses, white hydrangea, calla lilies and the most amazing phaleonopsis orchids.

The linens and chair covers are from Wildflower Linens in Heber. If you are in the market for linens you HAVE to check out the showroom. They have the most amazing linens I've ever seen.

I loved all the little details of this shoot. One of my favorite elements was the framed mirror that the flowers and candles were placed on. (Scroll back and up check it out if you missed it).

St Regis Ceremony Photo Shoot

I had the opportunity to work with a fabulous group of vendors on a photo shoot up at the St. Regis Deer Valley. I'm going to break up the photo shoot (because we did a table setting inside and outside as well) and do 3 separate posts since there are so many great photos. Carrie Parker with White Ginger Events headed up the shoot and you can't have a great shoot without a great photographer. Logan with CAKE http://cake-photography.com/Photography did a beautiful job as you'll see below. It was a really cold day (as you can tell by the pictures) but it worked great for the look we were going for. I love the cute wooden benches with the warm fur blankets and accents pillows. It brought in a cozy feel for a chilly day. I also loved how the pine cones framed the aisle. There are so many great details in this ceremony. See for yourselves. :)

Adam and Kylee's Formals

This is a fun post for me especially since the groom is my baby brother. And the bride (Kylee) is one of my favorite people. They make a beautiful couple and I'm so excited for their recent marriage! The bride's bouquet consisted of lisianthus, hanging amaranthus, ranunculus, green hydrangea, green hypericum, white calla lilies, green cymbidium orchids and curly willow.

Mountain Land Design Holiday Party

I was honored to be asked by Utah Style and Design to provide some floral arrangements for Mountain Land Design's huge holiday party! Boy do they know how to throw a party! One of my favorite things were the cupcakes with bacon on top... strange mixture but pretty tasty.

Winter Inspiration Shoot

What is ombre? Ombre is a graduation (fading) of color. It's been very popular with hair color... darker roots fading to lighter ends. It's also popular in fashion and in the world of weddings. For example using dark pinks that fade into lighter pinks or dark yellow that fades into lighter yellow. Fall is probably my favorite season! It used to be spring but in Utah it seems as though spring has disappeared. :( Fall is also my favorite time of year for designing flowers. As you'll see in these pictures there are so many things other than flowers that can be incorporated into a bouquet (or any arrangement for that matter).

Desiree's Wedding

Some bride's are meant to be in a magazine and Desiree is one of them. Just look at her! This lovely affair took place at Noah's in South Jordan. I loved so many things about this wedding. 1st of all the flower choices but also the cake from Granite Bakery and Bridal. That was one amazing cake! Bride's bouquet included succulents, tight green hydrangea, white freesia, cymbidium orchids, dahlias and twigs.

Are you kidding me?!? Talk about a model!

Taylor with Ballam Films did it again! Most of you saw our baseball engagement video. We loved the way it turned out and knew that our "day of" wedding video would be just as great. He captured so many special moments. This video made me cry and laugh my head off all at the same time. You'll know what I mean when you watch my nephews fighting over the garter and my brother and brother-in-law throwing out coke to the crowd. Wow! Hilarious! It was so fun to watch this and remember how amazing our wedding day was. I wish I could re-live it all over again. Laughing Gravy

For those of you who have been following my blog I got married September 24th. It was the most perfect day! I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. I can't wait to share photos with you but I can't do that just yet. Brittany with Cascio Photography gave me a sneak peak and so far I LOVE what I've seen!

Today I wanted to feature another one of my extremely talented and super funny vendors and that is Durven with Laughing Gravy. Durven has been a longtime friend of mine. We met several years ago at a wedding we both worked on. That was the first time I witnessed him D.J. a wedding and I knew that someday he would be my D.J. too. Durven did not let me down. My wedding dinner/party was so much fun and he is a huge reason for that. He got the party started and even got people who don't like to dance out there on the dance floor. It was a riot! Several family members and friends mentioned that he was the best D.J. they've ever seen at a wedding and I couldn't agree more.

Jared is a HUGE baseball fan so I thought it would be really fun to take some pictures at Spring Mobile Park in Salt Lake City. We loved how they turned out!

The picture above was taken at the Zollinger Fruit Farms in Providence, Utah (my hometown.:))

The pictures above were taken at a campground/amphitheater up Logan canyon. You would have no idea that we were being swarmed by mosquitoes. I've never seen so many of those stinkin' things in my life. I came away with over 20 bites.

These pictures were taken at the beautiful first dam at the mouth of Logan canyon. I used to feed the ducks at this dam with my Grandpa when I was younger so this was a sentimental location for me.

Today I want to feature my awesome videographer for my wedding. Jared (my fiance) and I decided to do some engagement pictures at Spring Mobile Park in Salt Lake City. Making Progress

Here are a few things we're working on for the BIG day. These little flowers are a little bit more time consuming than I thought they'd be... luckily I only have 40 more to make. :)

Chargers are at least $2.00 regular price so when I was at Michaels and saw that they were having a 1 day sale on chargers I loaded up (no brainer). We spend anywhere from $.01 to $.99 cents per charger. Most of them were Easter colors so we had to spray them gold. We saved a lot of money and with the help of my niece and nephew (Norah and Boston) we whipped this project out in 1 day!

Now, on to the next project (they seem to never end).

Most of you who know me know that I got engaged to Jared Dabling about a month ago. Pretty exciting! People always ask me if I've had my wedding planned out for years since I'm in the wedding industry and see so many fun and beautiful ideas. That's exactly the reason why I didn't have my wedding planned out before I got engaged. Weddings, style and decorations are continually changing which means I get to see and arrange new things all the time. Once we decided on a wedding date I started pulling in ideas from all sorts of places. I'm doing a fall wedding and want to make it feel fall-ish without feeling too rustic. I've got a lot of fun things planned and can't wait to see it all come together! I'm going to start posting my progress step by step. I'm excited to get feedback and any thoughts that my readers have. :)

We are getting married in the beautiful Bountiful, Utah temple on September 24th 2011.

We decided that we wanted to do something a little bit smaller and forgo the reception and do a smaller dinner for family and close friends. We chose The Point Restaurant and Reception Center which serves as a restaurant during the day and transforms into a beautiful wedding venue at night. If you've read my blog in the past you've seen many pictures of The Point. I've designed flowers for quite a few weddings up there.

I'm working with some awesome vendors and will spotlight them in the next few weeks. I'll also show you some pictures of the things I've been working on. I'm so excited!

My friend of almost 31 years got hitched last weekend. Amberly lived down the street from me growing up. We were inseparable until 1st grade when our elementary school would longer let us be in the same class together. How bad can first graders be??? Desiree's Flowers

We're seeing succulents all over the place these days but I'm still in love with them... and this bouquet! We used dahlias, succulents, dried lotus pods, star of Bethlehem, freesia and a few twigs wrapped around the bouquet. I was very happy with the way these yellow billy ball boutonnieres turned out. Desiree has great taste.
Once I get the professional shots I'll post them. The wedding party did a lot of DIY decorating for this wedding including newspaper flowers. You'll want to see them, trust me! And... the wedding cake was unbelievable!

Here is a little arrangement we did for Colleen at The Hilton downtown. It's hard to tell from the picture but we added red peppers inside the vase. This arrangement also includes black callas, dahlias, roses and ti leaf. I LOVE the challenge of creating something interesting for my clients!
